Describe usefulness of this annotated bibliography to the target audience and how it will promote this aspect of literature to chosen audience
Dinosaurs are a constant favourite of young children. This annotated bibliography is useful to parents who wish to borrow books that contain the subject of dinosaurs. The books were also selected based on topics and themes that will equip and reassure youngsters in social situations.
- Relevance of items included and why
- Promotional qualities of the blog format you have chosen
Template - The template is simple so it does not distract from the banner and book cover images.
Page Text - The page text is large and a dark grey colour so the annotations are easy to read. The annotations are written for parents and care givers.
Labels - The labels are easy reference points. The books are labelled according to, tone (humour), life skill themes (e.g. behaviour, love), age, rhyming text and bedtime story.
Backgrounds - The background colours of mauve and pale green are complementary colours that harmonise with the banner.
Links - I have included the links to:
- two established authors who have professional websites; one being interactive
- the Goodreads website provides a list of recommended picture books about dinosaurs
- a YouTube video that children may enjoy watching
- and a link to the Sutherland Library catalogue as all the books presented in the blog are available at Sutherland Shire Libraries.
- Items excluded and why (you must inlcude a citation for at least one tiem you have excluded along with an explanation)
Grambling, Lois G. & Davis, Jack E. T-rex trick-or-treats, New York : Katherine Tegen Books, 2005.
I excluded this book because trick-or-treating is not as popular here in Australia as it is in other countries, such as, North America. Although I have received young children at my door looking for treats over the last few years, Halloween remains 'the celebration of the few' in this country. This book though beautifully presented has a subject (Halloween) that did not fit with the more general social life skills theme.
Creature Count: a prehistoric count
Huante, Brenda & Nguyen, Vincent. Creature count: a prehistoric count, New York : Farrar Straus Giroux, 2012.
I excluded Creature Count: a prehistoric count because the book did not fit the social life skills theme. This book is a sophisticated counting book. I chose books that were focused on behaviour and how young children behave in social situations. Having said that, this book's illustrations and text are terrific; this would make a great bedtime story book.
